After visiting Elizabeth's Apple River Fort days I checkout a book describing the major events during the Blackhawk war. However I also know that almost every settlement during that period had some connection to the war. Does your community or one you know of have such a story?

Re: Stories of the Blackhawk War
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 10:03 PMI have a true story. Well i read it a long time ago and believe and tell this story to people. It illustrates how great soldiers we are lol. Well my group from my home town of Springfrield whose leader was honest Abe was nicknamed the suckers. They got that name because when the battle was under way they would due the sacred duty of staying in the rear quarding/sippin the whiskey barrel. This continued intoWW2 my Dad was a sailor in The USN 1943-53 and he told me the closest he come to biting the big one was he was come back from leave and he fell into the drink. We peeps from the Land of Lincoln we some great Americans. -
