Stupid kid!
Wed, April 28, 2004 - 2:27 PMOne of my students mentioned the tradition of rubbing the nose on the large bust of Lincoln by the tomb in Springfield. I was impressed because not many of my south-eastern Illinois kids have been to the Lincoln sites.
Another kid thought you were supposed to stick your fingers up the nose. What a dork! -

Wed, April 28, 2004 - 7:31 PMIt does bring luck we used to take a field trip every year and we would all rub his nose if you look at the statue Abes got a shiny nose The spookiest thing I saw then was the table his casket layed on in the old state capitol. Another spooky place is in the road behind his tomb is his first gravesite a place where his body was stolen. His nose is rather solid Abe has no holes in his rather big head. -

Re: The ghost of Abe Lincoln
Wed, April 28, 2004 - 2:24 PMYes, Lincoln's ghost haunts several places. At the end of our unit on Civil War literature, I take the students to the internet to look up and read information about Lincoln's premonition prior to his assassination, and also the hauntings.
Type Abraham Lincoln's ghost or Abraham Lincoln premonition on a search engine and you'll get several hits.
Also, the train that carried his body from DC to Springfield is supposed to make a ghostly route. This year I learned that when there is a silence 20 minutes past the hour, it is due to Lincoln's passing--he died at 20 minutes past 8:00.
Here's a link to a funny one: www.geocities.com/darkcinema/lincoln.htm
