Near Shawneetown on top of one of the Bluffs is the old Crenshaw mansion. It's not well known about excpet to most Southern Illinoisians.
It was a family owned museum for many years however the State has neglected to do anything with it.
The Mansion was part of the Underground Railroad. Slaves coming here thought they were free however they worked in the salt mines.
This place has hundreds of ghost stories and even Lincoln stayed here in the past.
I will do some more digging and see If I can find some more information on this.
At a later date I'll be down that way and will take some pictures.
